EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK

In Washington State, employment of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians is expected to increase faster than the average (28%) for all occupations through the year 2006. The estimated employment rate of program graduates is 100%. The median wage for graduates in their first few years is $14.66 per hour. In a few more years wages can double or more.

POTENTIAL POSITIONS

Most program graduates work as technicians for private heating, air conditioning, or refrigeration service companies. Opportunities may also exist to work for heating and air conditioning dealers, manufacturing companies, food processors and in self-employment. Potential positions include heating and air conditioning technician, heating and air conditioning service person, heating and air conditioning installer, contractor, estimator, food industry mechanic, or gasfitter and others.


  SPECIAL INFORMATION

• EPA Certification is mandatory for
course completion
• Students must pass certain Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute (ARI) certification tests
to earn the A.A.S. degree.
